Brewing up success: newest coffee spot puts Aussie-grown coffee in the spotlight

Selling fresh coffee and flowers from a vintage caravan is a dream come true for Maggie Keelan and Glen Murtezani.

Since opening two months ago, the owners have been overwhelmed with support from local coffee lovers.

Tru Blu Coffee Caravan is front and centre outside Coles at North Buderim, offering drinks made with Australian-grown coffee beans, pastries and locally grown flowers.

“We are using this as an opportunity to turn our dream into something we can do every day of our lives and not just take out it on the weekends,” Ms Keelan said.

She found the Spitfire van on Facebook Marketplace and Mr Murtezani said it ticked all the boxes.

“We just fell in love with the Spitfire. They just look so cool, the vintage style,” he said.

With an emphasis on local suppliers, the pair source their coffee beans from Sunshine Coast-based roasters Cooee Coffee and have added food items to Tru Blu’s list of offerings.

“We are starting up the food side of it, so slowly introducing pastries, meat pies (and) sausage rolls,” Ms Keelan said.

Tru Blu has also teamed up with Ninderry-based Woods Goods Flower Farm to source sustainably grown flowers.

I’m passionate about flowers and Glen grows flowers, and we have contacts and work with local flower farms to source their flowers and then I like to create different arrangements.”

While Ms Keelan and Mr Murtezani cannot pinpoint the exact number of coffees made each week and said it was “a lot”, they could agree on the most popular order: a cappuccino.

Ms Keelan said the feedback and support from the community had been “massive” since opening.

“We are really looking forward to growing and improving and working with more small businesses in the area to support the local community and share everyone’s passions and expertise with everyday people,” she said.
